A Unique Shade of Therapy
Provider Bio - Dawn Harris

The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. As your therapist, it is my passion to help others find strength and courage they didn’t know that they had, and to witness the personal transformation that comes from sharing your story in a safe and non-judgmental space.
I became a therapist to help clients gain insight on difficult situations they encounter, in order to build self-confidence needed to face any of life’s challenges. My mother immigrated from Jamaica to the suburbs of Chicago, where I spent majority of my childhood. Throughout my life, I have witnessed the negative stigmas surrounding mental health, which can prevent individuals from receiving the help they need. I have developed a passion for working with others in order to reduce the many myths that permeate the truth about mental health. I have great pride in seeing my clients experience such a positive transformation.
I received my Master’s in Clinical Professional Psychology (Counseling Practice) from Roosevelt University and my Bachelor’s from Eastern Illinois University in Sociology. With my four years of experience, I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, including private practice, mental health agencies, and elementary education. My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, significant life transitions, stress management, self-esteem, racial identity, and challenges within relationships.
As a therapist, I strive to provide interventions that are supportive, unbiased, and culturally competent. I use evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to address how the client’s thought processes influence their actions and behaviors. I encourage clients to gain a deeper understanding of their internal thoughts in order to develop healthy the coping skills necessary to pursue your life goals.
My role as your therapist is to focus on the presenting problems that clients experience in order to identify patterns that may result in unhealthy behaviors. Therapy is a space that allows individuals to acknowledge how actions and behaviors contributed to who they are today. My role as your therapist is to help increase your self-awareness and create new perspectives that will allow you to live the life you have envisioned for yourself. Though change can be uncomfortable and scary, it is valuable to embark on a journey that brings about personal growth.
